Get started with OpenCode.

An open-source agent workspace that can use different model providers to work on files in a local folder.

  1. Install OpenCode Desktop

Use the OpenCode Desktop section of the official download page. Choose the installer for your computer.

  2. Open your practice folder

Create waymark-practice on your computer, launch OpenCode and open that folder as a project.

  3. Connect a model

Choose a model you have access to. If needed, connect its provider using the app’s provider setup. Keep API keys out of lesson files.

  4. Plan, then create files

Ask the agent to explain its plan before making changes. After reviewing it, allow the work in your practice folder and inspect the saved result.

Optional: try one small task

Use this Waymark practice brief to check that your agent can create a file. Review its plan, let it finish, then open ready.txt yourself.

Workshop preparation includes its own first instruction, so you can skip this check.

In this practice folder, propose a plan to create a file called ready.txt containing ‘My Waymark practice folder is ready.’ Wait for my approval, then create it. Do not change other files or use external services. Tell me where to open the file so I can check it.

No specific free model is required for these lessons. Available models and provider access can change.

One agent. Plenty to try.

Use your installation for a self-paced lesson or bring it to a live workshop.
