Get started with Claude Code.

Anthropic’s agent for reading a project, creating files and reviewing changes in the Claude desktop app.

  1. Install Claude Desktop

Download the installer for your operating system. Linux users can follow the official beta installation guide.

  2. Sign in and open Code

Sign in with your Claude account and open the Code tab. The desktop app includes Claude Code; a separate CLI installation is not needed.

  3. Choose Local and a folder

Create waymark-practice, select Local, then select that folder as the project. Choose an available model.

  4. Start with a plan

Use Plan to explore the task. After reviewing the plan, switch to Manual to approve file changes and commands as you work.

Try one small task

Use this Waymark practice brief to check that your agent can create a file. Review its plan, let it finish, then open ready.txt yourself.

In this practice folder, propose a plan to create a file called ready.txt containing ‘My Waymark practice folder is ready.’ Wait for my approval, then create it. Do not change other files or use external services. Tell me where to open the file so I can check it.

Keep the session in the Code tab and the selected local folder. The ordinary Chat tab is a different experience.

One agent. Plenty to try.

Once you can open your folder and create a file, you’re ready to choose a lesson.
